Welcome to Wholeness Within Reach, I’m Deme—a sickle cell warrior, spiritual seeker, and passionate advocate for holistic healing. My life has been a journey of embracing every piece of who I am, learning how to find wholeness in the midst of challenges, and creating a space where hope and healing can thrive.
My Story
Growing Up with Sickle Cell:
From a young age, I faced the unique challenges of living with sickle cell anemia. The journey has not been easy, and I’ve had to navigate through countless hospital visits, intensive treatments, painful setbacks, and even moments when I confronted the reality of death. These experiences pushed me to seek a path to healing that goes beyond physical care, embracing a holistic approach that nurtures the mind, heart, and spirit.
A Leap of Faith: Moving for Better Health:
Determined to take charge of my health, I made the bold decision to move from my home state of Michigan to North Carolina. It was a choice driven by my desire for a healthier life, both physically and spiritually. Here, I’ve found new healthcare options, including an FDA-approved gene therapy program that offers hope for the future. My journey is about finding the strength to seek better, even when the path is uncertain.
Spiritual Growth and Finding My Path:
Faith has always been the cornerstone of my life. Raised in a Christian household, I learned early on to lean on God for guidance and strength. As I’ve grown, my spiritual journey has expanded, becoming more personal and reflective. Through prayer and quiet moments with God, I’ve found not only comfort but also a deep sense of peace and purpose. My spirituality is rooted in a trust that God’s presence is with me every day, guiding me through life’s challenges and reminding me of His constant care. This path continues to evolve, but it always brings me back to the foundation of my faith.
A Unique Family Dynamic:
Family has always been at the heart of my life. My sister Dana and I both share the journey of living with sickle cell, while our brother Chance sees the world in his own special way. My sister Lesley, her husband Mike, and their two beautiful children, Olivia and Micah Jr., add to the lively dynamic of our family. We are a close-knit, supportive tribe, navigating life’s ups and downs together, even as our parents remain back in Michigan. Our bond is built on love, understanding, and the belief that every challenge we face is an opportunity for growth.
